Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse

Cottage cheese is having its moment, and rightfully so. It’s high in protein, packing in 25 grams per 1 cup. It’s nutrient dense, low calorie, and believe it or not, extremely versatile.

Some folks are turned off to cottage cheese due to the curdy texture. While it’s understandable, I dare you to give this recipe a try. Blending cottage cheese makes it smooth, creamy, and delightful. It’s perfect for both sweet and savory dishes, replacing cheese sauces or, like here, dessert mousses! My favorite twist on this trend is a velvety chocolate mousse. All you need is a blender, cottage cheese, cocoa OR cacao powder, and your sweetener of choice. I’ve used both honey and maple syrup, and they are equally delightful.

Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse

Velvety chocolate cottage cheese dessert so you can satisfy both your protein needs & sweet tooth.

Ingredients

  • 16oz Cottage Cheese
  • 3-4 tbsp Honey or Maple Syrup
  • 3-4 tbsp Cacao Powder

Instructions

Blend all the ingredients together. That's it. Enjoy!

Some notes:

  • As you can see, I am a taste tester especially in simple recipes like this. Some will like more chocolate and less sweet, or vice versa. I suggest starting with 3 tbsp of both cocoa powder and sweetener, tasting it, and adding 1/2 tbsp at a time from there to find your desired taste.
  • You can use a standard blender OR you can also use an immersion blender. If it seems to have trouble blending together, add a splash of water or milk to help get it going.
  • You can use any sweetener you prefer. I personally like maple syrup, but honey, date syrup, stevia, or even sugar water would work just fine. I have put full dates in before and it was great.
  • I use cacao powder for the magnesium boost, but for some it can irritate the gut and/or wallet. You can use regular baker's cocoa powder as well.
  • Topping this with some cacao nibs, cinnamon, or chocolate chunks makes it even more delightful if you're into toppings & textures like I am.

Notes

Good Culture is my favorite cottage cheese brand and is available in most grocery stores.

While this is my personal favorite take, you can also do a fruity version adding honey and your jam of choice. Let me know if you’ve tried any other takes on cottage cheese in the comments! Much love, and see ya next blog.
